The Great Air Ships. Feb 12th, 1935 – The USS Macon, the last U.S. Navy dirigible, crashed on its 55th flight off the coast of California, killing two people. After takeoff from Point Sur, California, a gust of wind tore off the ship’s upper fin, deflating its gas cells and causing the ship to fall into the sea. Two of Macon ‘s 83 crewmen died in the accident. The U.S. Navy lost the airships Shenandoah in 1925 and Akron in 1933. Some considered airships too dangerous for the program to continue at that point, and work on them in the United States halted temporarily. The German zeppelin Hindenburg crashed and burned in 1936. ....
Penn State Fraud Case 12:08 am According to court documents, a former Penn State employee has been charged with fraud, accused of purchasing computer and technology equipment, meant for the university servers, and selling it for his own personal profit. Authorities say Daniel Sickels, formerly of Lewistown, Pa, worked for the university, from 2005 to 2017, as a network and systems manager. Investigators say Sickels was responsible for purchasing equipment to maintain the university’s computer servers. Documents state that Sickels used his authority as the systems manager to purchase equipment, from the university’s purchasing application, and then sold the equipment and merchandise for his own personal gain. ....
Governor Tom Wolf Announces New COVID-19 Restrictions (Harrisburg, PA) Governor Tom Wolf is issuing new COVID-19 restrictions. The governor announced yesterday a ban on indoor dining at restaurants, closure of gyms, theaters and casinos and other COVID-19 restrictions. The new orders will take place at midnight this Saturday and are expected to last until at least January 4th. Other restrictions include the suspension of school sports programs and extracurricular activities. New President Judge Elected in Commonwealth Court (Harrisburg, PA) The Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania is electing a new president judge. Judge P. Kevin Brobson was announced yesterday to take over as the new president judge. Brobson was first elected into the commonwealth court in 2009 and was retained in 2019. He will be succeeding Judge Mary Hannah Leavitt at the beginning of next year. ....
