Making the community a better place May 11 2021 Third grade students at Steins Pillar join partnership with Delta Waterfowl to create mallard nests for the Crooked River Wetlands As the weather becomes more moderate and the sunshine invites young scholars outside, many classes are participating in school projects, while basking in the lambent radiance of a spring day. Last week, a classroom of third graders were immersed in a project that resulted in the culmination of creating a number of mallard houses. The project was a partnership between Steins Pillar Elementary students, the City of Prineville and Delta Waterfowl. Delta Waterfowl, which was founded as a research organization, is The Duck Hunters Organization, which is a leading conservation group founded at the famed Delta Marsh in Manitoba, Canada, with its United States headquarters in Bismarck, North Dakota. ....
watch live The proposal continues the Department of the Interior’s efforts to increase recreational access on public lands, the agency said in a news release. “We are committed to ensuring Americans of all backgrounds have access to hunting and fishing and other recreational activities on our public lands,” said Martha Williams, principal deputy director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. “Hunters and anglers are some of our most ardent conservationists and they play an important role in ensuring the future of diverse and healthy wildlife populations. Our lands have also provided a much-needed outlet to thousands during the pandemic and we hope these additional opportunities will provide a further connection with nature, recreation and enjoyment.” ....
