Swango Fund to various organizations at June Swango’s request. June Swango passed away in April of 2019, but her estate left behind a 1.5 million dollar bequest. A bequest, a provision in a will to make charitable donations, allowed Swango to choose the business close to her to donate to. Those four recipients of the money include Terre Haute Parks and Recreation Department, TREES Inc., Vigo County Historical Society and Vigo County Parks and Recreation Department. Each organization received an installment of $12,000 this week. ....

(WTWO/WAWV) Dobbs and Deming Park will temporarily close on May 31 for the ninth annual Memorial Day 5K and fun run, the Terre Haute Parks and Recreation Department announced Monday. The 5K will start at 9 a.m. on Memorial Day in Deming Park. Participants will run toward Dobbs Park and then circle back for a finishing lap in Deming. Awards for all age groups as well as door prizes will be distributed for the race. The one mile fun run will start at 8:40 a.m. inside Deming Park. The races, according to the press release, will be in honor of current service men and women, military veterans, the American flag and the American way. ....

(WTHI) - The Terre Haute Parks and Recreation Department announced some exciting news for the weekend. The Spirit of Terre Haute train will be open on Saturday and Sunday at Deming Park. The train was out of rotation for the winter months. It s scheduled to start running at 11 am to run until 5 pm both Saturday and Sunday. It will cost you $1.50 for a ride.
