New Farmington Public Schools’ superintendent discusses plans for first year

FARMINGTON On May 13, the Farmington Public Schools’ Board of Education, in a 7-0 vote, offered Chris Delgado a contract to serve as the district’s next superintendent.
The decision came after an extensive interview process that saw two rounds of public interviews, where candidates took questions and discussed plans for the district.
Bobbie Goodrum, the assistant superintendent for diversity, equity and inclusion, served as the interim superintendent during the search.
“We are all so excited to welcome him to our already incredible team,” Board of Education President Terri Weems said in a press release. “We are confident he will leverage the talent in our district to produce the best outcomes for our students. We all really look forward to working with him.”
Former board members Johnson, Green and Mukamal said problems weren t limited to one person, arguing Terri Weems, the board s current president, has also fueled discord. Johnson and Weems have gone as far as filing complaints against each other to the district.
It s not just former board members alleging conflicts. Smith and Weems have had conflicts as well. Publicly accusing people especially without investigation is dangerous,” Weems wrote in an email to Smith in January 2019. “It continues the cycle of negativity. It is creating an unsafe working environment for employees, creating a divide in the community and likely fueling recall efforts.”

The Farmington Public Schools Board of Education voted Thursday to offer Christopher Delgado the position of superintendent, the district said.
The 7-0 vote by the board came after interviews this month with five candidates; the board narrowed the selection to three people for a second round of interviews this week.
“We are really pleased to have had such great candidates to choose from,” stated board of education president Terri Weems. “Dr. Delgado impressed us and felt like the right fit for Farmington Public Schools based on our extensive interviews and research.”
Delgado, who serves as deputy superintendent of Walled Lake Consolidated Schools, thanked the board after the vote.
“It is up to us to make sure we do what we can to make sure Dr. Delgado is successful, Board Secretary Donald Walker said. His success will lead to our children’s success.”
After a tough year of pandemic schooling, Herrera s exit and the addition of four new board members, Board President Terri Weems said she hopes this is the start of something good.
“We have a real chance to do something here and create a fabulous legacy, she said.
