New Alliant battery storage project in Decorah brings renewable energy solution to area DECORAH, Iowa (KWWL) A new example-setting battery storage project based in Decorah is allowing room for more consumer owned-solar panels in the community and providing an efficient solution for renewable energy. The battery absorbs and stores excess energy from solar systems during the middle of the day when the sun is brightest, and makes it accessible later in the day when it s more needed. Alliant Energy says this will lower consumer costs. Governor Kim Reynolds says that this project will help create jobs and serve as a model for other communities. ....

Times-Republican CEDAR RAPIDS Marshalltown, Cedar Rapids and Ames are just a few of the 37 Iowa communities that will be greener thanks to grants from Alliant Energy’s Branching Out program. Marshalltown will receive $10,000 to replace trees lost during the derecho and the 2018 tornado. Alliant Energy partners with Trees Forever to help communities develop, select and plant a diverse mix of trees. This year’s funds will help communities plant trees to replace those destroyed by the 2020 derecho or the emerald ash borer. “The first thing you notice when you drive into a town that was hit by the derecho are the spaces where the trees used to be,” said Terry Kouba, president of Alliant Energy’s Iowa energy company. “As we work to build stronger communities, we’re proud to provide larger grants this year to plant more trees to help rebuild the tree canopy.” ....
Alliant announces jump in renewable energy generation Thursday, December 3, 2020 11:28 AM More than 26.5% of electricity used by Alliant Energy’s Iowa customers in 2019 was generated by renewable resources, the company announced today. That is up from 9.9% in 2018, according to a news release. Company officials said that percentage is expected to continue growing with wind farms that came online this year and the addition of new solar farms that will generate up to 400 megawatts of clean energy by the end of 2023. The information was verified by the Iowa Utilities Board, Alliant officials said in the release. “We continue to focus on providing customers with affordable, reliable and sustainable energy,” Terry Kouba, president of Alliant Energy’s Iowa energy company, said in the release. “With more than double-digit growth in renewable generation, this achievement shows we are moving in the right direction.” In its Iowa Clean Energy ....
