As he prepares to slide back into his padded, custom-made hot seat on the
Dallas Mavericks bench, Don Nelson wants to reassure everyone that he s the
same Nellie as before.
Nelson s ways are unconventional, but they are working this year.
Unlike anyone else in his profession, to this day.
Not that we need him to tell us. It has been evident all season in Big D,
even before Nelson conquered The Big C, more by the manner in which he
reacted to prostate cancer than those quirky lineups and unorthodox

Portland smash burger superstars prepare to open full restaurants

Last winter, Judith Stokes held a two-day smash burger pop-up at her upcoming North Portland restaurant, Derby, hoping to introduce the Kenton neighborhood to the new space.
The only problem? After she’d closed her original restaurant in the old Cup & Saucer space, Derby 2.0 had yet to be built.
“It was a nightmare,” Stokes said. “I only had one outlet, so we had to run a power strip and borrow all these pancake griddles. We had an employee whose job was to kick on the power supply every time it would trip. One day we did 68 burgers in two and a half hours. There was grease going everywhere.”
