The Montana state House ended the session’s 44th (and technically also 45th) day with a recognition of one lawmaker’s status as an elite dancer (Jonathan Windy Boy of Box Elder is the Michael Jordan of pow wow and grass dance, by some accounts), a group rendition of the state anthem (“M-O-N-T-A-N-A!”), and a brief attempt to reignite an argument from Tuesday morning on one of the right wing’s top legislative priorities.
It was, in other words, a fitting way to mark the halfway point of the 67th Regular Session of the Montana Legislature. ....

Montana Legislature advances big policies, some left to tackle as midway point nears


Lawmakers continued to plow through legislation on their way to the midway point of the legislative session, debating nearly 150 bills in floor sessions that ran all day Monday.
The Senate was still meeting past 9:20 p.m. Monday night, while the House adjourned for the day just before 6 p.m.
Wednesday is the deadline for general bills that don t deal with money to advance from the chamber they originated in.
The Senate narrowly advanced two bills that have drawn intensely personal debate. The Religious Freedom Restoration Act cleared the chamber on a 26-24 vote, with five Republicans joining all Democrats in voting against the legislation. It s Senate Bill 215 carried by Sen. Carl Glimm, R-Kila. ....
