THE contribution of two much-loved GPs was celebrated as a Blackburn health centre marked its 50th anniversary. Dr Mridul Kumar Datta and Dr Saroj Datta are the partners of Stepping Stones Practice at Audley Health Centre and have dedicated nearly a century of service to the local NHS between them. The Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, councillor Derek Hardman, and Blackburn’s MP Kate Hollern were joined by Janet Alker and Jean Shorrock, two patients who have been members of the health centre for 50 years. Dr Mridul Kumar Datta has spent 56 years working in the NHS and 50 years in general practice, and Dr Saroj Datta has spent 55 years in the NHS and 46 years in general practice.
CIVIC leaders are urging residents to express their gratitude to the NHS workers, local authority staff and volunteers who have spearheaded the battle against coronavirus this weekend. Sunday is the first national ‘Thank You Day’ to acknowledge their work combatting Covid-19 and Blackburn with Darwen Council bosses have thrown their support behind it. They have asked borough residents to join them on social media using the hashtag #ThankYouDay to praise the individuals that have helped them through the pandemic. And borough bosses have highlighted the efforts of NHS doctors and nurses, the council’s own staff and hundreds of volunteers who rose to the challenge posed by coronavirus and to help those ill or isolated as a result.
