Gardai injured on duty

There has been widespread condemnation of two incidents over the weekend which saw two locally based Gardai being injured while on duty.
In the first incident, a garda was struck by a car on Saturday afternoon around 1.45pm while conducting a routine mobile speed check on the M1 near Junction 20 (Jonesboro).
Gardai had signalled for a car on the northbound carriageway to stop and while it did so initially, it then fled the scene, injuring the Garda who had got out of the patrol car to speak with the driver.
The Garda sustained a broken collarbone as he was dragged by the vehicle. He was taken by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda. ....
