Minneapolis: It was a day of reflection, of remembrance, a time to lay flowers and say prayers, to celebrate Black culture with art and music and food, and to recall the life of a man whose death, one year ago, shook the country and forced it to confront its painful legacy of racism and police brutality.
In Minneapolis on Tuesday, as people gathered to mark the anniversary of the police killing of George Floyd, there was space for it all: the trauma and the grief; some celebration, over a murder conviction of a police officer; and a measure of hope, too, that in death Floyd, a Black man, had nudged America toward more racial equality. ....

New police incident clouds verdict in Floyd murder case

Minneapolis, Minnesota, Apr 21 (EFE).- The police killing of a teenage African American girl in Columbus, Ohio, just minutes before the verdict was announced in the George Floyd murder trial in Minneapolis, has clouded the conviction of former police officer Derek Chauvin, who was on trial for Floyd’s murder.
On Wednesday, dozens of people came to the street corner where Floyd was asphyxiated after being arrested by Chauvin to pay their respects and shout the African American victim’s name after his killer was taken to prison to await sentencing sometime in June. ....

Anxiety builds around Chauvin trial ahead of closing arguments

MINNEAPOLIS Before jury deliberations begin in the Derek Chauvin trial, the prosecution and defense will have one last chance to drive home their cases during closing arguments on Monday morning. 
Chauvin is charged with second-degree and third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter in the May 25, 2020 death of George Floyd. Bystander video and police body camera footage showed the former Minneapolis police officer kneeling on Floyd for nine minutes and 29 seconds.
As we get closer to a verdict, Jhermayne Bundy of Brooklyn Center said, The tension is high and I think it should be. It needs to be watched. I think the nation needs to see it and keep up with this. ....
