Commentary: Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on Monday formally enacted adult-use cannabis legalization in the state of New Mexico, signing into law an historic measure approved by the state Legislature after the governor called them into a special session for that purpose late last month.
“The legalization of adult-use cannabis paves the way for the creation of a new economic driver in our state with the promise of creating thousands of good paying jobs for years to come,” said 
Gov. Lujan Grisham. “We are going to increase consumer safety by creating a bona fide industry. We’re going to start righting past wrongs of this country’s failed war on drugs. And we’re going to break new ground in an industry that may well transform New Mexico’s economic future for the better.” ....

SANTA FE Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham Monday formally enacted adult-use cannabis legalization in the state of New Mexico, signing into law an historic measure approved by the state Legislature after the governor called them into a special session for that purpose late last month.

New Mexico Gov. enacts paid sick leave and 'death with dignity' laws


The End-of-Life Options Act gives terminally ill adult patients voluntary end-of-life rights.
Paid sick leave bill guarantees workers at least one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 worked.

SANTA FE - New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham set her pen Thursday to more bills from the state Legislature s regular 60-day session, including a death with dignity bill and another guaranteeing paid sick leave for workers. 
Lujan Grisham signed 10 bills Thursday in the final hours before bills from the regular session are effectively pocket vetoed.  The governor has until noon on Friday, April 9, to enact legislation from the 60-day session that ran from January to March. ....

Apr. 9 In a legislative session full of contentious proposals from more progressive lawmakers such as legalizing cannabis and repealing a decades-old abortion ban perhaps none drew as much controversy as one that would give terminally ill patients the right to seek a doctor s aid in dying.
On Thursday, Gov.
Michelle Lujan Grisham signed into law House Bill 47, known as the Elizabeth Whitefield End-of-Life Options Act, which gives certain patients the right to ask a physician to prescribe drugs to end their suffering.
The legislation is named after a
New Mexico judge who died of cancer in 2018 after lobbying legislators for years to approve a so-called right-to-die bill. ....
