Letter: Crisis center deserves this community s support
Evansville Courier & Press
We have a great opportunity to strengthen our community, helping individuals and save money.
These goals have always been important for the United Churches of Christ. We and our predecessors were instrumental in starting Deaconess Hospital, The Good Samaritan Home, United Caring Services, and United Family Counseling Services and in bringing Habitat for Humanity to Evansville. We have partnered with other faith communities and secular groups to meet human need. Another such prospect is before us.
The efforts of CAJE (Congregations Acting for Justice and Empowerment) and United Caring Services (UCS) in conjunction with Southwest Behavioral Health to establish a crisis care center deserve wide community support. This will give police an alternative to jail or the emergency room when dealing with mental health or intoxication/substance abuse calls.
