THE ISSUE
The Manheim Township Board of Commissioners voted unanimously March 8 to approve a resolution supporting the creation of a county health department and calling on the Lancaster County commissioners to create one. That board sent its resolution to the countyâs 60 municipalities and 17 school districts seeking their elected officialsâ support for such an agency. The boards of Columbia Borough, Christiana Borough,Conoy Township, Bart Township, Quarryville Borough and Strasburg Township are among ones that have rejected the idea. Denver Borough Council is among the boards that supports the idea, as does Marietta Borough Council. And Lancaster City Council passed a resolution last Tuesday in support of the âpromptâ establishment of a county health agency. ....

Lancaster City Council calls for 'prompt' creation of county health department

Lancaster City Council passed a resolution Tuesday in support of the âpromptâ establishment of a Lancaster County department of health.
The resolution also requests that the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners initiate a working group to evaluate the idea of a health department and to make recommendations by the end of a year. The resolution passed unanimously with six council members in attendance. Council member Pete Soto was absent.
âItâs overdue,â council member Xavier Garcia-Molina said.
The Manheim Township Board of Commissioners last month passed a similar resolution, then sent a letter to every school district and municipality in Lancaster County urging them to do the same. ....

Denver passes resolution recommending county look into public health department

What happened: Borough Council unanimously passed a resolution calling for Lancaster County to initiate a working group to evaluate and make a recommendation related to the creation of a county health department by the end of this year.
Background: Discussion of a possible county health department began at councilâs March 29 meeting, after receiving Manheim Townshipâs letter asking council to consider adopting a resolution urging county commissioners to support establishment of a health department.
