The COVID-19 pandemic might have slowed down a lot of people’s lives either by choice or necessity, but for Joe Tate, it caused him to speed up one facet his interest in art.
Since the health care crisis hit over a year ago, the formerly periodic painter has become quite prolific and even recently won a prestigious art award in the Dogwood Arts Spring Art Show. And by the way, this man who seems full of new energy is also in his mid-80s. ....

Columbia State celebrates graduates with drive-thru ceremony

For 20-year-old Julia Andres, Saturday marked a new chapter for both her and her family as she accepted her diploma at the Columbia State Community College drive-thru spring commencement ceremony amid continued precautions against COVID-19.
A center on the college’s soccer team, Andres became the first person in her family to receive a college degree.
Cheered on by family, friends and faculty, like Andres, more than 300 hundred graduating students briefly stepped out of their vehicles to pick up their diplomas and take a photograph before leaving the campus as alumni.
The ceremony marked the first return to campus for many of the graduating students since the institution has held the majority of its classes remotely in an effort to protect students, professors and their families against coronavirus. ....

Legislative Update: Session adjourns with major bills passed in education, health

The Tennessee General Assembly adjourned the 2021 legislative session on May 5 after acting on major bills to increase scholarship opportunities for students and help turn around struggling schools.  
The year began with passage of landmark legislation in a special session to boost student literacy and to recover learning losses suffered in one of the most turbulent school years in state history due to the pandemic. The regular legislative session saw action to strengthen Tennessee’s economic recovery, expand broadband, prepare students for 21st century jobs, protect Second Amendment rights, support the state’s first responders, improve health care, and take care of some of the state’s most vulnerable citizens. Below is a look into some of the key pieces of legislation that was passed during the 112th Session of the Tennessee General Assembly. ....

Nicole Kasper and Paige Kosinski have launched Odyssey Entertainment Group to provide musician management services.
Odyssey emphasizes streaming, social media platforms and fanship building, according to a release. The company has a roster of 25 clients including Enola Bedard, Cindy Chen, Rom’Nya Akia, Becca Bastos, The Williams Fam, Brian Esperon, Ana Gum, Crescent Shay, Sarah Hambly and Brittany Ostofe.
Since Odyssey began operations, Kosinski and Kasper (pictured) have partnered with HBO, Netflix, Chipotle, Elf and Instagram, among others.
Collectively, Kasper and Kosinski have worked at Universal Music Group, Live Nation, Clear Channel Radio, Q Prime Management, ASCAP, Creative Artists Agency, Big Machine Label Group, Mini Mac Music, WBA Entertainment, SiriusXM and Warehouse West Entertainment (the latter at which they met three years ago). ....
