Seventh Judicial District Circuit Court Judge Don Elledge retired Wednesday, the end of June, after 16 years on the bench. The Seventh Judicial District is Anderson County. The Circuit Court hears both civil and criminal cases.
Elledge hadn’t aspired to be a judge, but when a vacancy opened up, he was encouraged to apply by others in the community, Tennessee Courts System said in a story about Elledge’s retirement.
“He was successful, and Governor Phil Bredesen appointed him to the bench in September 2005,” the story said. “Judge Elledge did not fully know at the time that he was about to embark on the most rewarding journey of his professional life.”
The Oak Ridger
Anderson County Circuit Court Judge Donald R. Elledge is retiring after serving the county for more than 15 years.
Elledge was sworn in as judge on Sept. 1, 2005, and was elected unopposed in 2006 and 2014, according to a news release.
As Circuit Court judge, he presides over the county’s civil and criminal jury trials. He also presides over the county’s Drug Court and is a former chairman for the Drug Court Committee of the Tennessee Judicial Conference.
Elledge attended Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville and the YWCA Night Law School, which is now the Nashville School of Law. Prior to taking the bench, he was an attorney in private practice. He was selected as an Outstanding Lawyer of America and a Martindale-Hubbell AV Rated Attorney. He is also a former president of the Anderson County Bar Association.
