A.R. Rahman’s
99 Songs, which he wrote and produced and of course composed the incredible music for is ready for its digital release. The musical drama, will begin streaming on Netflix and Jio Cinema on May 21st, much to the delight of fans!
The film, that released in the cinema on April 16th in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu was directed by Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy. With debut actors, Ehan Bhat and Edlisy Vargas, the film also features Manisha Koirala, Lisa Ray, Tenzin Dalha, Warina Hussain, Ranjit Barot, Neel
Tyagi, Rahul Ram, and Diwakar Pundir.
99 Songs is the journey of a young man named Jay whose life centres around his two great loves: music and his girlfriend Sofia. According to Mr. Rahman, “99 Songs is about a musician trying to make it against the odds and his struggle between the old world and the new world. The antidote is music.” 99 Songs is Jay’s quest to understand his purpose and passion, to overcome the challenges that stand between him and everything he cares
Zindagi mein dekhne se zyada mehsoos karna zaroori hain.
Aur music
humein mehsoos karna sikhata hain”. This line in 99 Songs effectively sums up the film. This is a film in which you can actually ‘see’ the music. You see it when a young Jay, denied a toy guitar by his father, flies a kite, but riffs on its string like a guitar. You see it when an older Jay (debutant Ehan Bhat) runs his fingers lyrically on the keys of a piano as he faces off in a musical jugalbandi with an old friend. You see it at the end when Jay and his girlfriend Sophia (Edilsy Vargas) are reunited in a frame that resembles an opera. You see and feel music soaring, pulsating, life-affirming, heartbreaking in each of the 133 minutes of 99 Songs.

I recently read a comment on YouTube that perfectly summed up A. R. Rahman s other-worldly music; A.R. Rahman is not a name, it s an emotion. Over the past few decades, music lovers have been blessed with Rahman s intricate love letters to music and what if the tunes were given a visual stimulus, spearheaded by

A whole lot of music, one terrific song, and a busload of cliches about tortured artists mark AR Rahman’s debut production.
99 Songs, based on a story by Rahman and a screenplay by director Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy, revolves around a musician who goes through a trial by fire before emerging pure and shiny. The title refers to the pursuit of that one tune that will stop the globe from spinning, reunite estranged lovers and bring about social revolution.
Yes, no less than revolution. This deadly earnest movie starts off in one place, heads elsewhere and finally lands up in La La Land. Despite an impressive performance by lead actor Ehan Bhat and several soulful tunes,
