Northern South Park planning behind schedule


When the town and county approved a process for planning for future growth and housing development in northern South Park, officials said time was of the essence. The process was slated to wrap up by August.
With a workshop now scheduled for noon to 7 p.m. Aug. 19, the planning has fallen behind schedule.
Some are concerned about the delay while others anticipated the lag.
For some, focusing on the delay misses the forest for the trees. And others say taking a few extra weeks to get the “alternatives,” essentially options for how northern South Park could be developed, and statistical models right is worthwhile. ....

Zimmers Gray published poetry book


Barbara Wood Zimmers Gray to write a book of poems, “Sharing the Song.”
Barbara came to Jackson in 1962 with her husband at the time,
Phil Zimmers. He was a young deacon at St. John’s Episcopal Church and the Chapel of the Transfiguration. They separated, and in 1979 she married
Bob Gray. They lived in Jackson until 2004, until he couldn’t ski anymore and winters were getting to be more work than fun.
Longtimers will remember that Barbara wrote a column in the Jackson Hole News in the early 1970s called “Trash is my Bag.” The column focused on environmental issues. As I read some of her past columns I found that we have the same problems that we were faced with 50 years ago. ....

Report says key housing metric may no longer be 'stabilizing' but some question that


But at least one planning commissioner is questioning how that could be.
The 2012 Jackson/Teton County Comprehensive Plan sets a goal of housing 65% of the Jackson Hole workforce locally. Annual Indicator Reports — amalgamations of environmental, transportation and housing data prepared by the town and county — track the community’s performance against that metric and, after prolonged decline between 2002 and 2014, a draft 2021 report said the numbers may be plateauing.
April Norton, director of the Jackson/Teton County Housing Department, took that as good news, even though, hovering between 58% and 59%, the community is underperforming the 65% metric.
“We’ve stabilized our percentage of the workforce living locally,” she told the Jackson Hole Daily. ....
