Charm City Kings Angel Manuel Soto, and written by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. The film would follow Jaime, who in the comics is the third character to take on the role of Blue Beetle following the death of Ted Kord. The report indicates that the film is expected to begin filming early next year.
Created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers, and Cully Hammer, Jaime s tenure significantly changed the Blue Beetle lore, revealing that the Egyptian scarab that gives the hero powers is actually alien in origin, and provided a sort of extraterrestrial suit of armor. Eventually, Jaime would go on to serve as a member of the Justice League, Justice League International, Teen Titans, Young Justice, and Secret Six.

“Corba Kai” breakout Xolo Maridueña is in talks to star in the lead role of Jaime Reyes in “Blue Beetle” for HBO Max, Warner Bros. and DC Films first superhero movie starring a Latino character, TheWrap has exclusively learned.
“Charm City Kings” director Angel Manuel Soto is set to direct.
The screenplay is from Mexican-born writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, who wrote Universal’s “Scarface” remake and Sony’s “Miss Bala.”
Blue Beetle movie – which like
Batgirl is taking aim at HBO Max across the pond – has moved on to the casting stage. Xolo Maridueña, currently best known as
Cobra Kai s Miguel Diaz, has scored the central role of Jaime Reyes.
Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer wrote the script for the film, which will adapt the more recent version of the Blue Beetle character. Originally created by artist Charles Nicholas Wojtkoski and writer Will Eisner for Fox Comics Mystery Men Comics in 1939, Blue Beetle was introduced as Dan Garret, a vigilante who fought crime using powers gained from chemical compound Vitamin 2-X, though that origin was later retconned to an archeologist with a suit and abilities derived from the alien Khaji Da scarab living weapon. He was succeeded by tech whizz Ted Kord, first appearing in Charlton Comics (which bought Fox and was itself later taken over by DC).
