People Moves: Texas Mutual Promotes Potter to CFO, Martin to Sr. VP-HR Texas Mutual Workers’ compensation insurer, Texas Mutual Insurance Co., has promoted Bill Potter to chief financial officer (CFO). Potter, a certified public accountant, succeeds Mike Barron, who served as Texas Mutual’s CFO for over 17 years and has retired. Potter joined Texas Mutual in 2018 as vice president of premium audit, after accumulating over 25 years of finance, accounting and business leadership experience in multiple executive roles. Potter led the premium audit team as they enhanced their focus on customer service, resulting in a policyholder audit satisfaction rate of 98%. Texas Mutual Insurance also named Larry Martin as the company’s new senior vice president of human resources. Martin assumed this role following the retirement of Lynette Caldwell, who held the position for over 12 years. ....
Texas Mutual to Distribute $330M in Policyholder Dividends May 4, 2021 Workers’ compensation insurer, Texas Mutual Insurance Co., will distribute $330 million in policyholder dividends in June, the company said. More than 57,000 Texas business owners, representing approximately 79% of Texas Mutual’s policyholders, will receive dividends in recognition of their efforts to provide safe work environments for their employees. This year marks the 23rd year Texas Mutual has paid dividends, bringing the total delivered back to Texas businesses to $3.4 billion since 1999. After a delay to allow for further research, OSHA s emergency temporary standard for COVID-19 may be weeks away from publication. On April 26, OSHA submitted a draft of the standard to the Office of Management and Budget for review. This is the first step before the standard would go into effect. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) As research shows that surface transmission is not the main source of COVID-19 spread, the CDC is revising its guidance on cleaning and disinfecting. The agency says that disinfection after cleaning surfaces with soap is no longer necessary unless there s been a suspected case of COVID-19. Additionally, the agency clarified that surface transmission can be reduced by consistent mask use and basic hygiene practices. ....
U.S. Supreme Court Hands Texas Insurers a Win in Air Ambulance Billing Battle April 28, 2021 A 2020 decision by the Supreme Court of Texas that limits workers’ compensation air ambulance payments to what is “fair and reasonable,” has been allowed to stand by the U.S. Supreme Court, according to workers’ compensation insurer Texas Mutual. The company said there “has been a drastic increase in air ambulance prices since 2012 when large private equity companies that had acquired air ambulance operations began increasing their billed charges dramatically. At the same time, these companies argued in courts in Texas and around the nation that a federal law requires state-regulated workers’ compensation insurers to pay any price they demand.” ....
