How February's Once-in-a-Generation Storm Altered Life on Campus and Across the City

Sunday, February 14, 2021
As lovebirds hunker down together to celebrate Valentine’s Day with what looks to be a romantic evening snowfall, rumors swirl that Texas’ grid infrastructure might not be able to handle the upcoming inclement weather.
Many Texans quickly learn that Texas is the only state in the nation with its own power grid, mainly to avoid federal regulation. That grid is operated by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), a company that releases warnings that “rolling outages” in duration of 10-45 minutes could befall customers across the state if demand outstrips supply.
As a precautionary measure, UT announces that campus will close at 4 p.m. and remain closed until Wednesday, February 17, at 8 a.m. That includes all virtual classes as well. UT Libraries immediately close. ....

'Scott Pilgrim vs. The World' in theaters: Where to see in Austin

It s time to rediscover that timeless wisdom: Bread makes you fat.
I speak of course about one of the best lines from Edgar Wright s 2010 movie Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, spoken in shock by Michael Cera, who stars with Mary Elizabeth Winstead and a who s who of bright young comedy talents. The film is based on Bryan Lee O Malley s popular Scott Pilgrim graphic novels, and on Friday, it s getting a remastered anniversary re-release in AMC theaters, including in Austin.
If you ve never gotten a chance to watch it, this incredibly Canadian tale finds Toronto townie Scott Pilgrim (Cera), a self-involved loser in a not-great band, become fixated on the mysterious Ramona Flowers (Winstead). But in order to date her, he must first defeat her seven evil exes, battles that Wright films as visually delightful crosses between video game punch-ups and comic book pow-bang-zooms. ....
