NMA tackles JOHESU over MDCN repeal bill On By Joseph Erunke The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, has denied the claim by the Joint Health Sectors Union, JOHESU, that the ongoing Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria Repeal and Reenactment Bill, being pushed by the Senate was aimed at regulating only the health workers’ profession. The NMA, in a statement, signed by its President, Prof. Innocent Ujah and Secretary General, Dr. Philips Ekpe, Sunday, accused JOHESU of engaging in blackmail against the Chairman, Senate Committee on Health, Sen. Ibrahim Oloriegbe, on the bill. The organisation accused the health workers of being ignorant of the purpose of the bill, which it insisted, was aimed at enhancing the mandate of the MDCN in regulating the profession to protect the public from unprofessional and incompetent medical practitioners and dental surgeons. ....

Akwa Ibom health workers appeal for payment of COVID-19 allowance The health workers say other states and the federal government have paid their health workers the COVID-19 allowance. ADVERTISEMENT Akwa Ibom Health workers have appealed to the state government to pay their COVID-19 inducement allowance. The workers, under the aegis of National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP), made the appeal in a communique on Thursday at the end of their general meeting in Uyo. The association said other state governments, including the federal government, have paid the COVID-19 inducement allowance to their workers. The communique was signed by the association’s chairperson and secretary, Enobong Akpan and Ekerette Ekanem, respectively. ....

Posting on Twitter, Mangwana said “This is what’s leading to the unfortunate conspiracy theory that there are certain political players being eliminated in hospitals buy political activists hiding behind medical qualifications.” Mangwana’s remarks followed the death of three government ministers (Ellen Gwaradzimba, SB Moyo and Biggie Joel Matiza) and top two Zanu PF politicians (Aeneas Chigwedere and Paradzai Zimhondi) in a space of one week. ....
