CLINTON, Iowa (AP) A Dubuque man has again been convicted of second-degree murder in the 2017 knife death of his girlfriend.
A Clinton County jury on Tuesday found Fontae Buelow, 29, guilty in the death of 21-year-old Samantha Link, of Peosta, the Telegraph Herald reported. Buelow has long maintained that Link stabbed herself at his home on on March 31, 2017. Prosecutors have said Buelow stabbed her three times in the chest.
Buelow was previously convicted by a jury in 2018 of second-degree murder in the case and was sentenced to 50 years in prison, but state appellate courts ordered a new trial, saying the trial judge wrongly excluded information about Link’s prior suicide attempt and mental health records that may have supported Buelow’s contention that Link stabbed herself. ....

Man Who Threatened Women At UD Sentenced

A man who threatened to shoot two women in a University of Dubuque residence hall has been sentenced to five years in prison. 28 year old Demetrius Woods-McKissick of Dubuque, was sentenced to the prison term and 30 days in Dubuque County Jail after previously entering an Alford plea for charges of intimidation with a dangerous weapon, two counts of first-degree harassment, second-offense domestic assault and interference with official acts causing injury. The plea is not an admission of guilt, but the defendant acknowledges that there is sufficient evidence for a conviction. Officers were dispatched on October 3rd on the UD campus where Azalea Rodriguez said her boyfriend, Woods-McKissick, had come to her dorm room and threatened to shoot her and her roommate, then pulled a gun and racked the slide of the gun. University surveillance footage showed Woods-McKissick arriving at Aitchison Hall gripping what appeared to be a black handgun. ....

A Dyersville woman is accused of stabbing her stepdaughter with a pair of scissors and locking her in her room for hours each day.
31-year old Jacey Meyer has been charged with Child Endangerment, False Imprisonment, Abandon/Neglect of a Dependent Person and Willful Injury-Bodily Injury.
Dyersville Police say a neighbor notified them of a possible assault. An 11-year old girl was inside her home covered only in a blanket. The girl, who had visible red marks around her neck, a laceration on her lower lip and bruising around her eye, told police that her stepmom, Jacey Meyer, had assaulted her at their home at 210 2 ....

Dubuque County Man Immediately Sentenced

Given the COVID-19 outbreak at the Dubuque County jail, a man from Peosta has decided to plead guilty to multiple charges and accept an immediate sentence to move to a state prison. Under his agreement, 30-year-old Brice Heinze has pled guilty to charges of 3rd-degree sexual abuse, assault causing serious injury and a parole violation. Heinze will be sentenced to 10 years in prison and on parole for life. He has been at the Dubuque County Jail since October. Heinze’s lawyer filed the motion in regards to his client’s health. Over the past two weeks, nearly 20 inmates and staff at the jail have tested positive for COVID-19. Heinze was previously convicted of sexual abuse in Clayton County in 2014. Police say he assaulted a woman, that he knew, back in August. ....
