By • 11 Jul 2021 BACK TOGETHER: Tracy Turnbull of Teesdale Day Clubs serves up treats for Annie Henderson, Norma Robinson, Vera Carter, Mavis Tarn and Christine Wardle MANY elderly dale residents are leaving their homes for the first time in more than a year thanks to new support groups set up by Teesdale Day Clubs. The groups began meeting when coronavirus restrictions were lifted last month, giving many vulnerable people their first face-to-face social interaction since March last year. One of those to benefit is 97-year-old Annie Henderson who joined a group meeting at Barnard Castle Cricket Club last week. She described her first outing since lockdown as being like a trip abroad. ....

19 Dec 2020 COMMUNITY EFFORT: Matthew Croom draws the first ticket in The Clique’s bumper Christmas raffle with Graeme Smith and David Harper, from the group A CHRISTMAS raffle organised by a charity group raised more than £2,000 for good causes. The Clique, which was formed more than 20 years ago, has about 20 members and raise funds to support local clubs, groups and people In normal years, members host a variety of events including the highly popular It’s a Knockout in Barnard Castle, but they have been unable to carry out their usual activities due to the pandemic. The bumper raffle, which featured 58 prizes ranging from a wide-screen television to golfing days, raised £2,162. ....
