April 29, 2021 · 0 Comments By Sam Odrowski While Orangeville has emergency shelter services for youth, women and children, the issue of men’s homelessness has not yet been addressed. To take the first step in developing a solution to the problem, Mayor Sandy Brown brought forward a motion at a Council meeting on Monday (April 26) to form a Mayor’s Special Committee on Men’s Homelessness, with the goal of creating a men’s emergency shelter. A delegation in support of the committee from Terrance Carter of Carters Law and Matthew McLean, Pastor of the Good Friends Fellowship Church, which operates a daily community meal program called the Lighthouse, have both seen the issue of men’s homeless impacting Orangeville firsthand and shared their stories. ....

Instead of joining together in-person as attendees of the gala normally would, there’s food available for pickup, courtesy of Teen Ranch and an exciting online performance featuring local musicians. The gala is capped off with a silent auction, which runs until March 15 and is available at: mobilbid.co/o/574/en/user/magic links/new. “We’ve had to be a little bit creative this year… but we actually have done very well with the dinner pick up aspect of it, which is awesome. We ended up getting I think over 300 dinner orders,” said Carley Walkinshaw, who helped organize the Winter Gala. ....
February 18, 2021 · 0 Comments By Brian Lockhart A group of senior hockey players have found a new venue for their weekly games of shinny after local arenas had to close due to the pandemic. The group, dubbed the Mad Hatters, meet three times a week at the outdoor arena at Mono Centre for a friendly morning game. They used to play indoors at Orangeville arenas, but when the arenas closed they moved over to the big ice surface at Teen Ranch. They were only able to play two games there before that venue also had to close. Not wanting to give up a year of hockey, they started looking for somewhere else to play. They found the rink in Mono with posted times allowed for hockey. ....
