LA Junta Tribune There will be a Rally for Responsible Rural Leadership Old West cookout on April 17 beginning at noon. It will take place at 30037 County Road 10, just northwest of Las Animas. The rally is open to Republicans, Democrats and independents. There will also be games, live entertainment and food. Guest speakers include Las Animas County Chair Citizen Carlos Lopez, Bent County Chair Robert (Jack) Barrington, former commissioner Dean Ormiston and Congressional District 4 candidate and retired Marine officer Ike McCorkle. There were 21 candidates on the November 3 rd Colorado ballot for President including a slot for any write-in candidate. The unofficial tally for Colorado is 1,631,018 for Biden and 1,220,661 for the incumbent, Donald Trump. Prowers County residents cast 1,438 ballots for Joe Biden on the Democratic ticket and 3,977 for Trump for the GOP. There was an 81% voter turnout for Prowers County with 5,545 ballots cast from 6,840 eligible voters. Former Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper received 1,565,775 statewide ballots against the incumbent Republican U.S. Senator, Cory Gardner’s 1,280,289. Prowers County residents cast 3,933 for Gardner for a second, four-year term and 1,417 for Hickenlooper. Ken Buck, the republican candidate for the state’s 4th Congressional District, defeated challenger and political newcomer, Ike McCorkle by a vote of 162,263 to 262,621. Buck also won the county with 3,976 versus the tally for McCorkle at 1,269. ....
Council Passes Resolution for Main Café Historic Designation Steps have been taken to have The Main Café in Lamar designated as a historical property by the Lamar City Council. A resolution was passed to that effect to accept the application which was initiated under the direction of the City of Lamar Historic Preservation Advisory Board. This will allow the building at 114 South Main Street in Lamar to be categorized as an historic building for the purpose of preservation, renovation, rehabilitation, reuse and nomination to the Colorado and National Registers of Historic Places. The building, which was built in the 1890s has been repurposed numerous times, as a dry-goods store or clothing store in 1900, a printing shop in 1906, a telegraph office and stationery shop in 1919, an attorney’s office was added in 1925 and the Main Café operated from 1939 to 1990.
