TTU School of Nursing celebrates 40 Years Share on Facebook Share on LinkedIn LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - After celebrating 50 years of the Texas Tech University School of Medicine, it’s time now to recognize another milestone. 40 years of educating nurses through the School of Nursing at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center. This year’s graduation in May pushed the total number of nursing graduates up to nearly 17,000. Dr. Mike Evans, Ph.D., Dean of the School of Nursing, describes the change in 40 years, “First class was very small, all the way to we have nearly 2000 students across the state right now.” Dr. Lori Spearman-Rice, President of the TTUHSC adds, “If you were to walk into health care facilities and clinics all across West Texas, and now even into the east side of the state as well, you’re going to come across graduates and alum from the Texas Tech School of Nursing.”

(WLBT) - Mississippi has a nursing shortage and the pandemic is making it worse. But there’s an even deeper rooted problem that needs repair: the nurse educator shortage. The draw of more money and paying off student loan debt is hitting not just practicing nurses but also nursing educators who are training up the next generation of nurses. “$5,000-$8,000 a week. they’re looking at, again it all comes back to that student loan debt that they have incurred along the way,” explained Kathy Elliott, Dean of Health Science, Hinds Community College.
