The Tisbury Police Relief Association, a nonprofit run by the department s officers, has chronically filed late paperwork.
The Tisbury Police Relief Association, a charity run by Tisbury Police officers, has brought years’ worth of state filings into compliance following records requests made by The Martha’s Vineyard Times. 
State records show that over its 29-year existence, the association has almost continually been out of compliance with either the corporate division of the Massachusetts Secretary of State’s Office or the nonprofit and charity division of the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office. ....

Why take down the vines?
To the Editor:
I don’t know why, but I have often felt that this island is populated by well-educated people who have the well-being of the community in mind.
That notion started to erode after we had a fierce debate for nearly eight years about a roundabout. I for one sure do miss the 10-minute wait at the four-way stop.
Then we had the Tisbury School. Here, the people spoke they didn’t want no stinking new school for $32 million. Nooooo, much better to take a 100-year-old pig and put some lipstick on it, and buy it a new pair of shoes for twice the price. And for good measure, we can disrupt the education of the children for years while the “adults” haggle about why no one bothered to check for lead and asbestos while the work crews renovate our beloved pig. ....

On Sunday, June 13, Tisbury voters will gather for a special town meeting on the school. The parent members of the Tisbury PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) would like to join the Tisbury select board, Tisbury school committee, and Tisbury finance committee with
wholehearted support for the Tisbury School renovation and addition project.
As parents, we understand the value of education for our children. It creates the foundation for their development, and provides a strong base for lifelong learning. At the Tisbury School, our children are being nurtured today to become adult citizens of tomorrow. Their growth is dependent on the quality of their education and their school. ....

Tisbury punts on Chief Saloio’s contract

At an unusual 7 pm meeting Friday night, the Tisbury select board voted unanimously to exercise an option in the town’s contract with Police Chief Mark Saloio that would give the town more time to negotiate a new deal. 
Town counsel Brian Maser characterized the option as something that offered “more flexibility and an opportunity to continue dialogue with the chief.”
Maser told the board they had little time to make a decision. “So the terms of the chief’s contract call for a vote to renew or extend, or non-renew, on or before Monday, May 3,” Maser said. “This evening would be the night on which to make a motion and then take it from there in terms of what the next steps will be. It will all depend on the board’s motion,” he s ....
