LUBBOCK, Texas – The 2021 college baseball season has presented a unique challenge for coaches, players and schools in dealing with various protocols and restrictions, while some teams and conferences have played vastly different schedules.
But as the regular season came to an end, one thing that didn’t change was the best players in the country continued to rise to the top, leading their respective teams to outstanding seasons or berths in conference and NCAA tournaments. That certainly holds true for those selected as the five finalists for the 2021 John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award.

Minneapolis – The Nebraska baseball team entered Sunday with a 2-0 record over the first two days of its trip to U.S. Bank Stadium, but then fell to the Ohio State Buckeyes, 6-4, and Iowa Hawkeyes, 3-1. The Huskers now sit at 5-3 on the year after two weeks of play. Iowa starter Duncan Davitt struck out six and didn’t allow a hit through 5.1 innings. The sophomore right hander ended his day by allowing one run on two hits and two walks over 6.0 innings.
Jake Bunz went 4.0 innings in his second career start and allowed three runs on five hits and two walks, while striking out two.

th and 11 Hroch retired six straight to start the game before Ben Norman led off the third with a double. Dylan Nedved later added a one-out single and the Hawkeyes had runners on the corners, but Hroch responded with a strikeout and a ground out to end the threat. Iowa started a two-out rally in the fourth with consecutive singles, but Hroch responded again with a strikeout to end the frame, his fifth of the game. Irvine shutout the Huskers through the first four innings, but that quickly ended in the bottom of the fifth when Matthews led off and put the second pitch of the frame into the right field seats for his first home run as a Husker. Irvine bounced right back and retired three straight Huskers to keep the game at 1-0.
