4x800 team takes first at Class 2, District 6 Meet
Four Southwest runners Travis Sickles, Christian Long, Caden Uthe and Otis Rainer advanced through the Class 2, District 6 Track Meet in five events Saturday at Reeds Spring High School.
Sickles, a senior, finished second in the 3200-meter run and third in the mile, and he anchored the 4x800 relay team to a first-place finish. He established a new school record in the 3200 in 9:57.49.
Nobody questions the guts of a distance runner, said Southwest Coach Steve Voyak. But, three races in a high-stakes meet will test anybody. He has been waiting for this day and he seized it.

Southwest distance standout Travis Sickles won the 2-mile at the East Newton Relays last week, breaking the school record with a time of 9:59.60. The old mark was 10:01.06 set in 2004 by Daniel Stubblefield, son of former Southwest track and cross country coach Lee Stubblefield. This is one of many goals Travis has set for 2021, said Steve Voyak, Southwest track coach. Its amazing to watch history unfold right in front of your eyes but he is not close to being done. He wants to get back to Jeff City and compete for All-State honors. Sickles, a senior, is among the Class 2 leaders statewide in both the mile and two-mile. He also anchors a strong 4x800 relay team for the Trojans. Sickles ran a 2:02 anchor split at Clever last week as Southwest defeated Hartville by 3 seconds. Two years ago as a sophomore, Sickles anchored the 4x800 relay team that finished 12th at the state meet in 2019. The Trojans are currently ranked 8th in the state in Class 2
