Moberly city council split on approving FY2021-22 budget


• FY2016-17 had 2% increase.
• FY2017-18 only had a pay increase to comply with recommendations of classification and compensation study that was varied by employee ranging from 0% to slightly more than 15%.
• FY2018-19 only had commissioned police officers receiving a 5.95% increase.
• FY2019-20 had 2% increase, as well as a $4,000 increase for its Emergency 911 dispatchers.
• FY2020-21 only awarded a one-time $1,000 payment for all employees that was not factored into ongoing base pay.
In lieu of the COVID pandemic, the City of Moberly curtailed plans of making some major equipment needs,, upgrades and other capital improvements listed on its tentative 5-year plan among all of its departments a year ago. As a result, many of those items were carried over while there are a handful of new subjects shown on the new 2021-22 fiscal year operating budget thanks in part to a strong revenue stream of monies coming from sales and use taxes. ....

After a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Moberly Area Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet was held May 1 at the 4th Street Theatre. The fundraising and social event brought an entire new atmosphere was created intended to celebrate members and the ability to gather again after a long year of business struggles.
Each year the Chamber honors its members for their achievements and this banquet was no different.
Moberly Area Chamber of Commerce President Heather Martin distributed the Chamber awards, and said. “it is always an honor for the Chamber to be able to recognize achievements. After a year of restrictions with little joy to be found it made these awards and recognitions even more special to give.” ....

Another community service amenity to help tie-in Moberly s heritage with the railroad industry was officially welcomed Thursday when a ribbon cutting ceremony was held at Depot Park to announce the newly constructed pavilion and restroom facility are now available for public use.
“We ve been into our sales tax proposal two years now and this is one of the projects we said we were going to do for our community and today you can see a promise is kept,” Moberly Parks and Recreation Department Director Troy Bock said.
Bock extended his appreciation to past city council and park board members, Moberly Rotary Club for their support as well as naming the businesses directly involved into the construction of the pavilion and public restroom facility of Depot Park. ....
