GAITHERSBURG, Md., April 13, 2021 /PRNewswire/ Novavax, Inc. (Nasdaq: NVAX), a biotechnology company developing next-generation vaccines for serious infectious diseases, today announced the promotion of Gale E. Smith, Ph.D., to Senior Vice President, Discovery and Pre-Clinical Research and Chief Scientist, and the appointment of Troy Morgan as Senior Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer. The company also announced that Greg Covino will be stepping down as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and will take on a new role as executive adviser to the company.
Colonel Edwin Carraway âE.C.â Newman II, 80, an Air Force fighter pilot and test pilot, slipped the surly bonds of earth for the final time on April 7, 2021 after a valiant fight with an aggressive form of multiple myeloma, attributed to Agent Orange exposure in Vietnam.
E.C. was born in 1940 and raised in rural Sampson County, NC. In 1958, he graduated from Clinton High School, waved good-bye to the tobacco fields, and left the family farm for the U.S. Air Force Academy. In 1959, he played center in the first ever Air Force-Army football game, a 13-13 tie in Yankee Stadium. He graduated from the USAF Academy in 1962, the USAF Fighter Weapons School in 1969, the USAF Test Pilot School in 1974, and earned his masterâs degree in Public Administration from Troy State University in 1984.

James (Jim) Tillman Deason, 71, of Cleveland, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, April 3, 2021.
Jim was born July 17, 1949, in Montgomery, Ala., to the late Tillman and Aileen Deason.
Jim resided and graduated from Autauga public school system in 1967, and he served in the Vietnam War from July 1969 to January 1972. Jim was inducted into the Alpha Sigma Lambda- Alpha Phi Chapter and graduated from Troy State University in 1974 with his Bachelor’s of Science Degree. He continued his education and graduated with his Master Degree in Counseling and Human Development from Troy State University in 1978.
At an early age, Jim professed his faith and accepted Jesus Christ as his savior; he was a member of First Baptist Church of Cleveland where he often spoke fondly of his years of service in the children’s nursery.
