With electric vehicle manufacturer Canoo planning to build a manufacturing plant in Pryor within the next two years, Oklahoma s auto industry is poised to roll vehicles off the line for the first time in nearly two decades.
It s the return of an industry that s more like a little brother to Oklahoma s other economic powerhouses of agriculture, aerospace and oil. But while it may not employ as many people or bring in anywhere near the revenue, automobile manufacturing here is nearly as old as the state itself.
In 1909, two years after Oklahoma became the 46th state, an independent automaker briefly operated a shop in Frederick, a small town between Lawton and the Texas border. ....

NEW HAVEN, Conn Finally, some good news coming out of the tragic New Haven fire that left one firefighter dead and another fighting for his life in the hospital.
Chief John Alston is with Lt. Samod Rankins at Bridgeport Hospital burn unit and Lt. Rankins’ condition has been steadily improving, said Assistant Chief Justin McCarthy, of the New Haven Fire Department.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner says the manner and cause of death of New Haven Firefighter Ricardo Torres is “pending further studies.” No funeral arrangements have been announced. ....

Jim Phillips is one of the most iconic skateboard artists in the history of the sport. The graphic designer created the famous Screaming Hand.
Jim Phillips was born in San Jose, California, in 1944.
Phillips grew up as an Army brat and moved from place to place until he was six years old. Drawing was one of his first hobbies.
He would open the comic sections in the newspapers and start drawing the characters he saw. And that was the fuel that lit the fire.
Jim has been a freelance graphic artist forever, and his major influences include Wally Wood, Carl Barks, Will Elder, and Tex Avery. ....

Lillian Odessa Barber Murdock


Lillian O. Murdock passed away peacefully at home in Clarkston Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020, at the age of 76.
She was born Feb. 27, 1944, in Montebello, Calif., to Roland and Delta De Board Barber. She lived in El Monte, Calif., until she finished the fifth grade; she then moved to Baldwin Park, Calif., and started the seventh grade. She graduated from Baldwin Park High School in 1961. After finishing high school, she was a swimsuit model and dress model in restaurants and did some TV commercials in Sacramento, Calif., then she started working for Pacific phone service as a telephone operator in Fairview, Calif.
In 1971, she moved to Orofino and worked for an eye clinic. Lill joined the U.S. Army in ’71 with the help of a man named Wally Youngren. She then went to basic training March 15, 1971, in Aniston, Ala. She finished AIT in Georgia and was one of 30 women who started the Women’s Army Corps. She was transferred to Fort Lewis, Wash., and was interviewed by the S ....
