TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) -The Reid Park Zoo expansion saga is one step closer to reaching a resolution.
On Tuesday, April 27, Tucson City Manager, Michael Ortega, is set to release his recommendation on the project, which will go before Mayor and Council for a final vote next week.
Michael McCrory is a member of “Save the Heart of Reid Park.” He also sat on the stakeholder committee (made up of park advocates, neighborhood associations, city and zoo leaders), bringing a fresh view to the previously-approved zoo expansion project. ....

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - Following the pandemic, hairdressers can now open salons out of their homes.
Tucson City Council approved the change Tuesday, April 20. The pandemic hit the salon industry hard and many hairdressers said they’ve found it difficult to make ends meet. Many lost hours and clients due to safety concerns when visiting a salon.
“Had to come up with creative solutions to make money at this time. I personally took out a mortgage loan on my house,” said Jennifer Proctor, a Tucson hairdresser. ....

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) -On Friday, April 23, the 45-day pause of the Reid Park Zoo expansion project will expire. However, work won’t resume until the Tucson City Council takes a vote on how to proceed.
In the most highly participated city survey to date, more than 14,000 respondents weighed in.
Eight options; lettered A-H, ranged from “no expansion” to a $100-million “relocation of the entire zoo.” ....

Board of Supervisors opposes Tucson Water's planned rate increase for unincorporated residents | Business


Supervisor Matt Heinz and Supervisor Adelita Grijalva voted against the resolution. 
Supervisor Rex Scott said he brought forth the resolution for several reasons. Most notably, Scott believes the rate increase is based on trying to get unincorporated areas to either incorporate or be annexed by the closest  municipality, not because it costs more to deliver water to unincorporated residents. A majority of the Tucson Water customers who would be affected are in Scott’s District 1. 
“The city has decided as a means of generating additional revenue for the utility that they are going to charge higher rates to people who live outside the city limits, but only if they live in unincorporated Pima County,” Scott said. “Roughly 34% of Tucson Water customers live outside the city limits and about 28% of that is unincorporated Pima County, while the other 6% is in Marana, Oro Valley or South Tucson.”  ....
