Riverdale to just waiting for the announcement of another stab at
Scooby Doo, popular properties are getting makeovers again and again in this media landscape. So when The CW announced
Nancy Drew, most folks went, “Oh great, another
Riverdale clone,” and then proceeded not to watch it.
Here’s the thing, though: The CW’s
Nancy Drew is really good and deserves a lot more credit. Is it on the level of
Breaking Bad or
WandaVision? No, but it does deserve a larger fanbase that what it seems to get, mainly because
Nancy Drew harkens back to those early days of series like
The CW Passes on Painkiller and Our Ladies of Brooklyn, Powerpuff Pilot Being Redeveloped, Tom Swift Still in Contention
One of the CW’s highest-profile pilots, Powerpuff, is not going to series at least not yet.
Powerpuff, based on the original Cartoon Network animated series, will be reworked and repiloted off-cycle. The four leads, Chloe Bennet. Dove Cameron and Yana Perrault and Donald Faison, as well as other cast, and the writers/producers all remain on board the project, from Warner Bros. TV/Berlanti Prods.
Tom Swift, a spinoff of Nancy Drew, remains in consideration. The CBS Studios/Fake Empire- produced project did not do a traditional backdoor pilot; instead the character Tom Swift, played by Tian Richards, appeared in a Nancy Drew episode, and the network also ordered a pilot script. I hear the CW could potentially order a standalone pilot based on the script as part of its series consideration for Tom Swift.

The CW made some major updates to its roster of programming on Monday, with long-awaited news about the statuses of many of its pilots and potential series. Among these is the potential
Nancy Drew spinoff
Tom Swift, which debuted a backdoor pilot earlier this month as part of the flagship show s second season. According to Tom Swift could still have a chance at The CW, as the potential series is reportedly still in contention with the network. This means that the pilot s fate of either being picked up or rejected by the network will be publicly decided at a later date.

Another week, another liberal racial episode of the CW’s
Nancy Drew. This is obviously not the beloved character you may remember from the classic childhood series by Carolyn Keene. And, now, it looks like the show is going to help promote a spinoff with yet another liberalized version of a beloved childhood character from another book series - Victor Appleton’s Tom Swift.
Wednesday’s episode, “The Celestial Visitor,” introduced Tom (Tian Richards) at the start as he helps Nancy (Kennedy McMann) and the “Drew Crew” solve a mystery. Only, because it s 2021, this version of Tom Swift is black and gay.
