Digital communications draft bill not internet censorship: NCC

Taipei, Dec. 14 (CNA) The drafting of a Digital Communications Act (數位通訊傳播法) is meant to better regulate inappropriate content on online speech platforms and not to censor internet users, the head of Taiwan s National Communications Commission (NCC) said Monday.
NCC Chairman Chen Yaw-shyang (陳耀祥) said Taiwan s government would never engage in internet censorship as the internet is a free, open and innovative space.
Chen was responding to charges by Taipei City Councilor Lo Chih-chiang (羅智強) of the opposition Kuomintang (KMT) on Sunday that the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government was putting internet censorship into law with the act being drafted. ....
