Today every international transaction requires a data flow across national borders and some electronic versions of products and services now are competing with physically embodied versions and these changes include the replacements of some jobs by electronics. 
Digital technology is wide open to inappropriate use by some governments, commercial operators and by criminals too. This has affected international trade. According to a recent report by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, (OECD)  trade in counterfeit and pirated goods has risen steadily, and now stands at $509 billion a year. As with previous Industrial Revolutions some governments and corporates are really benefiting. ....

Increasing demand for digital connectivity spurs growth of data centres

India’s data centre industry is expected to add 560 MW during 2021-23 leading to a real estate requirement of 6 million sq ft
Chennai s data centre capacity is expected to grow by 2.5 times to 133 MW by 2023 owing to demand from cloud players, as per a JLL report titled ‘2020 India Data Center Market Update’.
“Chennai is expected to remain as a leading data centre destination due to its strategic location, four cable landings and reliable power supply. The city witnessed 16 MW absorption in 2020 primarily driven by demand from cloud players. The key data centre hubs of Ambattur and Siruseri are expected to add 79 MW during 2021-23. Cloud players prefer high quality, scalable data centre facilities offered by the operators. The presence of IT/ITeS, BFSI and manufacturing sector is also expected to drive demand” said Siva Krishnan, Managing Director - Chennai & Coi ....

Apparel and Footwear was the strongest-growing category in the UAE for online purchases in 2020.
The e-commerce market size in MENA is estimated at USD 18.4 billion in 2024.
The expected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of the UAE e-commerce industry is 20 per cent.
The logistics space continued to surge, reaching 32 per cent in Asia Pacific, 21 per cent in the USA and 16 per cent in Europe Y-O-Y in 2020.
The UAE e-commerce sector emerged as the fastest-growing economic segment in the Middle East in terms of value sales, supported by rising digital connectivity, infrastructure and substantial growth in consumer electronics, apparel and footwear, based on the findings of the ‘E-Commerce Sector in the UAE 2020 insights’ report. ....

IDB to help map broadband demand in Brazil

Brazil s National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), through IDB Invest, have agreed a project to map fixed and mobile broadband demand. The Crowdsourcing for Digital Connectivity in Brazil project (C2DB project) will use population density maps, crowdsourcing information, and socioeconomic data to identify areas of unmet demand, group them, connect them to areas with greater connectivity, and estimate the cost of connecting people, institutions, and businesses.
