FIVE years ago this week, my family faced a frankly ridiculous number of newsies in the foyer of Holyrood, as the battle that the Home Office foisted upon us was really ramping up. For six months, we lived in a goldfish bowl, with our case in particular, and immigration as a whole, becoming a national debate through the prism of the 2016 Brexit vote.
The National has been in touch to ask how we’re travelling now, five years on. The short answer is that we’re back to being just another family living a quiet life in a Highland village, and we’re loving it. ....

Catherine Helen Grant was born on July 21, 1929 in her granny Grant’s flat at Gallowgate, Aberdeen.
Her parents were James and Katie and their family home was in Invergordon.
James was a butcher and Katie was mum to the couple’s two children, Irene and Williamina Mary, known as Wilma. Wilma was five years older than Irene but the two were close and Irene was devastated by the death of her sister when she was only 34 from complications from diabetes. ....

A former head teacher turned councillor has called on Highland Council to set up an engagement programme for Easter to help young people settle back into school after the latest lockdown.
Councillor Graham Mackenzie is the former head of Dingwall Academy, and says he’s seriously worried about the impact of the pandemic on young people and their mental health.
He is calling for High Life Highland to get involved with its furloughed staff and Active Schools co-ordinators in opening up buildings across the region and enabling a range of activities for primary and secondary pupils. ....
