A FORMER Ilkley resident is set to open a new specialist outdoor and bike store in the town he grew up in. Dave Hanney is the Co-Founder and CEO of Alpkit and its sister-brand Sonder bikes. He grew up in Ben Rhydding, just outside Ilkley, attended St Mary’s school in Menston, and stills pops back to see his mum. Alpkit will open its first Yorkshire store at the end of June on Station Road, in the shop previously occupied by Laura Ashley. Based on the edge of the Peak District, Alpkit and Sonder bikes was founded by enthusiasts to offer technical performance clothing and equipment at accessible prices for running, hiking, climbing, camping, swimming and cycling. Alpkit currently has six stores in Britain as well as a thriving website. They will recruit a team of eight staff for the new store which will hold the full Alpkit and Sonder range, a repair station as well running events in and around Ilkley. ....

The Armytage Arms, Brighouse Piedmont, Elpida Group and Smoothfield have joined forced to create a new holding company, Odyzean, holding 55 per cent of the company. The firms said the new company will help address “the significant capital needs of Mitchells & Butlers”. Odyzean said it is fully supportive of the current management team but that it plans to review the current composition of the board of directors. A spokesman said: “Without this major equity injection, the prospects for the business, its 1,600 venues, and over 40,000 UK employees would be bleak. “Our significant financial commitment will help to secure the future of the business and provide a platform for the strong management team to restore the company’s operations to good health when circumstances allow.” ....
