The Belton Independent School District moved forward in preparations for a 12th elementary school on Monday when trustees approved the hiring of a construction manager at-risk â a hire, who will begin working with architects in exploring designs. During a meeting last month, the Belton ISD school board authorized Superintendent Matt Smith to issue a Request for Proposals for the position. Mike Morgan, Belton ISDâs assistant superintendent of operations, said Smithâs request â which inquired about proposed fees for construction management and pre-construction services â spurred five submissions from general contractors by June 28. âBased on the evaluation process, the district is recommending Cloud Construction Co. Inc. as the construction manager at-risk for the design and construction of elementary No. 12,â Morgan said in a staff report. ....
After announcing that its director, Dr. Amanda Robison-Chadwell, was leaving earlier this week, the Bell County Public Health District did not update their COVID-19 dashboard Friday. Due to the learning curve required to update the dashboard, the district announced that it would pause its updates until such time as the incidence rate of the virus rises above 80 cases per 100,000 people. While Bell County will not update their dashboard, other counties and local school districts are continuing to do so. Milam County showed on its website Friday that they had five active cases of COVID-19, with three people currently hospitalized. The county has seen 1,446 total cases and 48 deaths. ....

After early voting for local elections ended Tuesday night, three more cities have now reported the total number of votes they have seen so far. Multiple entities across the county are currently holding elections for municipal seats as well as seats on school boards and the issuance of new bonds. Election Day voting is set from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday. Temple officials reported Wednesday that the city saw 3,267 ballots cast during early voting between the two races it is hosting at its sites from 1,641 voters. The Temple mayoral race between incumbent Tim Davis and challenger Richard Arwood saw 1,627 votes cast, while a bond issue for Temple College saw 1,640 votes. The Temple College bond is for $124.9 million and would be used for expanding campus facilities and programs. ....
Curative, which has partnered with Bell County to give COVID-19 vaccinations, is opening a clinic in Temple starting Tuesday. The new clinic is set to be located in Temple at Vista Community Church, 7051 Stonehollow Drive, and will be open from Tuesday through Thursday. Similar to the Curative clinic in Killeen opened last week, at Leo Buckley Stadium 500 N. 38th St., the Temple location will offer 1,500 vaccination appointments each week. The clinicâs operating hours are from 8 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with Wednesday appointments ranging from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. County Judge David Blackburn said the county is currently seeing many appointments open up and the county and Curative are working together to make sure whoever wants the vaccine can get it. ....
