2020-21 WHL Season Review: Victoria Royals
Prior to the Pandemic
Having been in the mix for the B.C. Division lead at the halfway point of the 2019-20 campaign, the Royals elected to go all-in at the trade deadline as they acquired Anaheim Ducks first round pick Brayden Tracey from the Moose Jaw Warriors.
Despite that move, the Royals ended up hovering around the .500 mark after the trade as they dealt with a number of injuries in the final two months. They were set to face the Vancouver Giants in an intriguing opening round matchup before COVID-19 brought everything to a halt.

MEDFORD, Mass. Dartmouth College’s Brooke Plonka made history during game one of Big Green softball’s doubleheader at Tufts on Saturday.
The junior pitcher threw a no-hitter, the seventh in program history, as Dartmouth won, 5-0. She also set a program record with 17 strikeouts, accounting for all but four of the Jumbos’ outs. The Marilla, N.Y., native finished the gem off in 99 pitches, striking out the final batter looking.
The Big Green completed a twinbill sweep with a 7-4 win in the nightcap.
The only blemishes that kept Plonka from a perfect game were two walks to Tufts’ Mia Steinberg in her first two at-bats.
