Dartmouth College’s Brooke Plonka made history during game one of Big Green softball’s doubleheader at Tufts on Saturday. The junior pitcher threw a no-hitter, the seventh in program history, as Dartmouth won, 5-0. She also set a program record with 17 strikeouts, accounting for all but four of the Jumbos’ outs. The Marilla, N.Y., native finished the gem off in 99 pitches, striking out the final batter looking. The Big Green completed a twinbill sweep with a 7-4 win in the nightcap. The only blemishes that kept Plonka from a perfect game were two walks to Tufts’ Mia Steinberg in her first two at-bats.

Playing games for the first time in almost 14 months because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Dartmouth College softball team split a doubleheader with host Umass on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Kelly Beaupre delivered a perfect game at the plate in the opener for the Big Green (1-1), going 3-for-3 with two runs and hitting a key three-run triple in a 6-2 victory. Beaupre and Regan Weekly got Dartmouth on the board with back-to-back doubles in the fourth inning, and the freshman blew the game open with her bases-clearing three-bagger in the seventh.
