Report: Cal to Add UNLV Assistant Tre Watson as Defensive Backs Coach

Mar 5, 2021 Justin Wilcox completed his Cal football coaching staff by hiring UNLV assistant Tre Watson as the Bears new defensive backs coach, Cal announced Friday. Watson will replace Marcel Yates, who left Cal to become the defensive backs coach at Oregon. Tre is one the nation s top young coaches and rising fast in our profession, Wilcox said in a statement provided by Cal. He brings a high level of energy and enthusiasm to the table. Tre has always impressed me with his work ethic, knowledge of the game and tremendous attitude ever since we coached him at Washington. He developed an excellent rapport with the student-athletes he worked with at Oregon and UNLV over the last three seasons, and he took advantage of a great opportunity he had to work closely with coach Heyward at Oregon. That helped him lay an excellent foundation for his coaching career.

From Yahoo Sports: “The Tournament of Roses says in its suit that the city doesn’t have ownership of the Rose Bowl trademarks and comes as the group and the city have been negotiating about the ownership of the trademarks.”

Steve Sarkisian reveals the key dates for Texas spring practice Share this story Texas athletics New Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian isn’t in any hurry to start his first spring practice on the Forty Acres Sarkisian revealed on National Signing Day that the Longhorns won’t hit the Frank Denius practice fields until March 23 following spring break. “We really pushed this thing back a pretty, pretty fair amount back,” Sarkisian said during a Zoom call with reporters. Sarkisian wants to provide Director of Football Performance Torre Becton and his strength and conditioning staff some extra time to go through the offseason conditioning program with the Texas players. But Sarkisian also has another goal to allow a coaching staff that has eight new assistants time to build relationships with the players.
