Sarah Martinez, a Pueblo native who works in youth substance abuse prevention, began her campaign for Pueblo City Council s District 3 seat on April 23, the latest of a group of young candidates hoping to reshape city government in the fall. 
“I never thought I would be running for city council,” the 28-year-old said at her kickoff event at a home in Pueblo’s Aberdeen neighborhood. It was through my community work, learning how systems interact at a city level, connecting with several agencies where I found that I had a voice and that I could change systems.” 
The event was attended by her campaign team, friends and several community members who endorsed Martinez, including Pueblo School District 60 board member Tommy Farrell.  ....
