PHILLIPSTON After first approving waivers to several zoning bylaws and setting conditions for the eventual issuance of a special permit, Phillipston’s Planning Board Monday night approved the site plan for a retail cannabis business. Local entrepreneur Damon Schmidt plans to establish the business at the corner of State Road/Route 2A and Baldwin Hill Road.
The board’s decision was made following a public hearing that had been continued from a previous date. The matter had been delayed in order to give consultant Patrick McCarty of McCarty Associates of Leominster the opportunity to review Schmidt’s plans. Those plans had been revised after McCarty in February had raised concerns regarding several issues with the proposal.

PHILLIPSTON Members of the Selectboard voted last Wednesday to report to the state’s Cannabis Control Commission that the proposed retail marijuana establishment to be located at 420 State Road/Route 2A is in compliance with all of Phillipston’s bylaws and ordinances. Had the board responded negatively, the CCC would have denied a provisional license to entrepreneur Damon Schmidt, the businessman working to open cannabis operation.
The approval, however, did not come until the concerns of some board members had been allayed.
“My question is,” board Chair John Telepciak queried, “where does the commercial site plan from you come in on this?”

PHILLIPSTON A pair of public hearings one relative to a proposed retail marijuana business, the other to a town-wide restriction on dirt bikes – have been set for Jan. 25. The Planning Board confirmed the hearing schedule at its meeting this week.
The first hearing will address the board’s site plan review of a plan by entrepreneur Damon Schmidt to establish a retail cannabis operation at 420 State Road/Route 2A.
Schmidt plans to construct a 4,000-square-feet structure at the corner of State Road and Baldwin Hill Road. His project has been in the works for about two years, with his original proposal calling for a combination retail/cultivation operation. It was determined, however, that the plan was not feasible due to restrictions imposed by the town’s zoni
