EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. A northwest Minnesota bar and restaurant was ordered to close Friday after the state attorney general filed a lawsuit that said the business refused to comply with Executive Order 20-99, which prohibits on-premises dining through Dec. 18.
Minnesota Attorney General Ellison announced shortly after 5 p.m. that Polk County District Court granted his office’s motion for a temporary restraining order to prohibit Boardwalk Bar and Grill from remaining open to the public for on-premises dining. He said the establishment had been operating in violation of the order for approximately 72 hours.

Moss said the funds raised were for her use only. Dan Stauss, whose name was on the liquor license at Boardwalk until recently, declined to speak to the Herald and, when reached, abruptly hung up the phone. It is unclear when and why Stauss removed his name from the license.
Ellison filed the lawsuit against Boardwalk two days after it re-opened on Wednesday, Dec. 9. Shortly after that, the Polk County District Court granted a request from Ellison to enact a
temporary restraining order to prevent the business from re-opening. However, the restaurant remained open on Friday and opened again on Saturday.
Ownership of East Grand Forks Boardwalk Bar and Grill goes from three to one
After two co-owners sold their shares of the East Grand Forks restaurant, Jane Moss opened, defying the Minnesota governor s executive orders. Former co-owner Dan Stauss says he completely supports Moss in her efforts to re-open the business amid a state shutdown and defend herself from a lawsuit. Moss was scheduled to electronically attend a hearing before the Polk County District Court on the attorney general’s lawsuit on Wednesday, Dec. 16. The hearing has been canceled, according to online district court records. 5:05 pm, Dec. 15, 2020 ×
