The Texas House killed a bill Thursday that would have paved the way for hundreds of Lake Austin shoreline homes to secede from the city of Austin. Senate Bill 659 from Sen. Dawn Buckingham, R-Lakeway, died on a point of order from state Rep. Donna Howard, D-Austin. The bill had passed the Senate on April 15 and appeared headed for passage after it made it out of committee in the House. In a statement to the American-Statesman, Howard said the Legislature was not the appropriate venue for aggrieved property owners. A spokesman for Google, which owns YouTube, said the company used both people and an automated system to evaluate ads. “From time to time, ads may be inadvertently disapproved. If someone believes their ads have been disapproved due to an error, they can appeal the decision from their Google Ads account.” Protecting users is a “major priority” for Google, the spokesman said. “Based on the available information, it appears the specific ads you refer to were initially disapproved, but were reinstated on appeal relatively quickly.
