NMSU to serve as COVID-19 vaccine distribution site


The New Mexico State University system will play a key role in helping the New Mexico Department of Health distribute doses of a COVID-19 vaccine to the general public at its campuses throughout the state. The collaboration will leverage NMSU locations, resources and expertise to help aid in vaccine distribution.

The NMDOH has already begun the first phase of vaccine distribution, targeting healthcare workers in hospitals and long-term care facilities, as well as first responders and elderly residents of long-term care facilities. Las Cruces Education: NMSU, TriCore partnership provides COVID-19 research opportunities


  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, New Mexico State University faced many unprecedented challenges. While a few factors remain uncertain, a new partnership has created several positive outcomes, along with future opportunities that will help faculty and students involved in research.
This summer, Albuquerque-based TriCore Reference Laboratories established a branch lab at NMSU. To date, it has processed more than 15,000 COVID-19 tests.
Because of the partnership with TriCore, this fall NMSU was also able to initiate large-scale testing for the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 as part of a random sample study by a group of interdisciplinary researchers seeking to understand the prevalence of the virus in the campus community. ....

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, New Mexico State University faced many unprecedented challenges. While a few factors remain uncertain, a new partnership has created several positive outcomes, along with future opportunities that will help faculty and students involved in research.

New Mexico officials are amending the state s public health order on the coronavirus to allow more people inside grocery stores and other essential businesses.
The governor s office made the announcement Wednesday, citing the recent frigid temperatures as a reason for the slight increase in capacity levels.
Waiting lines have been forming outside grocery stores and other retailers since Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham ordered capacity to be limited at establishments around the state as a way to curb the spread of COVID-19.
She has said the tough measures have helped to reduce new infections. However, deaths and hospitalizations related to the pandemic remain high. ....

New Mexico State University chancellor named to Biden-Harris transition team

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico
 New Mexico State University Chancellor Dan Arvizu has been chosen as part of the transition team for President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.
Arvizu was approached to help the U.S. Department of Energy in the upcoming transition from the outgoing Trump administration to the Biden administration, the Las Cruces Sun-News reported. He is also expected to review the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
“Please know this is strictly a volunteer position and not associated with my employment here at NMSU. I am doing this work on my own time,” Arvizu said in his most recent university system-wide email, Dan s Dispatch. ....
