Jacare Souza To Undergo Surgery On Broken Arm Suffered At UFC 262
Jacare Souza lost his first bout of 2021 at UFC 262 against fellow Brazilian Andre Muniz. It was the first submission defeat of his mixed martial arts career, ending in an audible, first-round armbar. This is also the first time the former Strikeforce champion was defeated in consecutive fights that both ended by stoppage.
Souza was transported to a local Texas hospital promptly after the fight. According to MMA Fighting by virtue of Rickson Moraes, Souza’s long-tenured doctor, immediate X-rays showed a fractured right humerus, which will require surgery. He will stay in the United States for surgery instead of flying back to Brazil, Souza’s motherland.
HOUSTON Another UFC lightweight is moving up the ladder at 155 pounds, at Tony Ferguson s expense.
Beneil Dariush (21-4-1) earned the biggest win of his career on Saturday as he out-pointed Ferguson in a three-round bout at UFC 262. All three judges scored the non-title bout, which co-headlined the pay-per-view event inside the Toyota Center, 30-27 for Dariush.
It marks the third consecutive loss for Ferguson, 37, who went into 2020 with a 12-fight win streak and an undisputed lightweight title shot. Unfortunately for Ferguson, his title fight against then-champion Khabib Nurmagomedov was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, and he has since suffered losses to Justin Gaethje, Charles Oliveira and Dariush.
UFC Rankings Review: Khamzat Chimaev is Back?
April 30, 2021
Editorial Commentary by Peter Parsons
In this week’s UFC rankings, many fighters were taken out of the rankings due to inactivity, change in weight division or in the case of Tyron Woodley, not re-signing at the end of his contract. We see a lot of fresh faces in the rankings this week and a familiar face at welterweight.
Khamzat Chimaev re-enters the welterweight rankings at No. 15
For regular readers of this column, you may be getting tired of reading about why Khamzat Chimaev should not be ranked. I did not think we would see Chimaev ranked again until he won another fight at welterweight. While he is inactive because of his recovery from COVID complications, there are other welterweights earning impressive victories, like Randy Brown at UFC 261 this past Saturday.
Raphael Assuncao vs. Kyler Phillips Set For UFC Event on July 24
Raphael Assuncao vs. Kyler Phillips
A bantamweight bout between Raphael Assuncao vs. Kyler Phillips has been added to the UFC event on July 24.
Raphael Assuncao is ready to return to the cage on July 24 when he steps in against rising star Kyler Phillips at the UFC event scheduled for that date. The news was first reported by MMAJunkie.com after Phillips announced it on his Instagram story.
Assuncao was nearing a title fight and beating some of the best in the division just a few years ago. However, as of late he has had some trouble. He is currently on a three-fight losing streak and would need a win in his next against Phillips to get back on track in the division. Another loss could cost him his spot on the UFC roster, especially since the UFC has been getting rid of big-name fighters who have been on losing streaks lately.
