Ozone pollution earns Sublette an F from American Lung Association

The American Lung Association gave Sublette County an F for ozone pollution, underscoring a persistent health danger believed to be caused by gas-field emissions, snow cover, little wind, winter sunshine and other factors.
The annual State of the Air report assembled data on ozone and fine particulate pollution, two of the most dangerous forms of air contamination, from across the nation. In 149 pages the association compared pollution levels to federal air quality standards to come up with grades and rankings.
The group also listed the number of persons that could be affected by tainted, or clean, air in any city or county. The 2021 report covers the years 2017-2019. ....

DEQ names new AML Administrator

(Wyoming) â The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Director, Todd Parfittannounced today, February 8th that he has named Don Newton as the new Abandoned Mine Land (AML) Division Administrator.
Newton’s previous experience includes 10 years as a key member of the AML program, 12 years with the DEQ’s water quality division, and more than 10 years of other management and environmental professional experience, according to the announcement.

âDon assumes the role as AML Administrator with outstanding credentials and expertise in the AML program along with a broad range of management and professional skills, including the exercise of good judgment,â said Todd Parfitt. “His extensive professional background, leadership, and knowledge will be a tremendous asset to the DEQ and the citizens of Wyoming.” ....

A landowners group voiced objections to Eagle Specialty Materials, LLC s Eagle Butte mine application for a five-year permit renewal. The Powder River Basin Resource Council raised concerns in a requested informal conference regarding the company s reclamation ability, legal right to mine, and connection to violations.
These all stack up to be fairly concerning issues that [the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality] should address and we hope that you will address in order to try and avoid a more serious problem in the future, said Jill Morrison, executive director of the Powder River Basin Resource Council.
The DEQ held the informal conference in order to help its director Todd Parfitt make a decision regarding the five-year permit renewal application of Eagle Butte. ....
