Healthcare workers, first responders and public servants are the saving grace of 2020.
That’s why Dottie Scher, an artist at Arts on the Greenway in Mount Holly, insisted on dedicating this year’s Christmas Fiber Arts Project – a new tradition in Mount Holly – to those working on the frontlines of the pandemic.
In 2019, Scher and 30 volunteers crocheted more than 700 granny squares together with acrylic fiber to make a 15-foot tall Christmas Peace Tree for the town’s first holiday community art project. Arts on the Greenway, which the Mount Holly Community Development Foundation funds, chose fiber art as a nod to Gaston County’s rich textiles history. ....
